It’s officially summer!!!
- No more waking the kids up by 6:30 AM for school.
- I successfully negotiated the summer bedtime (10 PM on weekdays and 11 PM on weekends).
- Over the weekend, we visited our local library for the Summer Reading Kickoff party and loaded up on books.
- Taped to the outside of the pantry door is a summer fun list. Trey and Tallen came up with the list of fun things to do this summer, so the kids don’t turn into screen zombies.
We are ready for Summer FUN!
In addition to my kids having a list of fun things to do, I put together a summer fun list for me. Some things are already on the calendar, like our family vacation in July. Others are just ideas for how to spend my summer evenings and weekends. Let me give you a hint… it will include being out on the lake.
Summer Fun List
SUP and SUP Yoga on Grapevine Lake – A week ago, I took my first SUP Yoga class with DFW Surf and I was immediately hooked. In fact, Trey and I are planning to join the DFW Surf club so that we can SUP anytime during the week. They offer SUPyoga classes Monday & Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings.
Summer Programs at the Library – We’ve attended the Monday Madness at Lewisville Library for years and plan to continue this summer. On Mondays at 6:30, the library hosts weekly entertainment for children in grades K-5. My kids love when the zoo brings in animals. Or when they invite a magician or scientist who performs experiments. We also signed up or the summer reading program. This challenges kids to keep a reading log, then turn it in for prizes.
Girls trip to Norman and Oklahoma City – I am headed to Oklahoma with several other Dallas Fitness Ambassadors for a fun, fitness-filled weekend trip! Our trip is hosted and sponsored by OKC Convention & Visitors Bureau and Visit Norman. This week, I need to figure out how to pack for a trip that includes rapids, ziplining, rock climbing and SUP.
Brew Bus with Trey for Father’s Day – Beer, local breweries and a fancy-pants bus. That is our plan for Father’s Day this year. Not sure how I was the lucky one picked to go with my husband… Oh that’s right, I suggested it as his gift and he happily agreed. There is still time to get your ticket for this month’s tour. Or check out future tours on the Brew Bus website.
Friday night fireworks in Grapevine – Every Friday during the summer, the city of Grapevine puts on a fireworks show over the lake. It is free and each week you can download the music to go along with the show. I might be the only one in our family who LOVES fireworks. But I think I can convince the kids to go with me a few times this year.
Beer Yoga at the Salt Cave in Southlake – Beer, plus yoga, plus salt therapy. I already love two out three things here. It sounded intriguing so I am trying it at the end of June.
Family Cruise to Key West and the Bahamas – So 30 family members from my husband’s side of the family, wearing matching red t-shirts, will board the Carnival Dream in New Orleans in July. Then we set sail for a 7 day cruise to Key West and the Bahamas. Did you catch the fact that there will be 30 of us on the boat together? Talk about summer FUN!
Visit from my mom and niece – Before we head out on our family cruise, my mom and niece plan to fly to Dallas for a week. I love having visitors from out-of-town, it gives me an excuse to check of some items on my Dallas Bucket List. Maybe we will head to Fort Worth and see the bull riders!
5K race with Sophia – Even though I am not officially training for any races, I did sign up for a 5K this summer. It is a charity race for Grace Like Rain. First our family will run the 1 mile fun run. Then Sophia and I plan to run/walk the 5K color run. She is so excited to race with her mommy!
Outdoor movie with the kids – Several surrounding cities, like Carrollton and Coppell, are hosting outdoor summer movies. Last Friday I planned to take Tallen, but we got rained out. Next month there are several more scheduled, so I hope to take both kids. Facebook is the best place to find these events.
Oxygen Challenge 3 – Team Jamie (Eason) – For the last two years, I’ve participated in the Oxygen Magazine Challenge. The first year was not successful. However, last year I was very happy with my “after” pics (see the comparison of before and after above). When I saw that Jamie Eason was a coach this year, I had to sign up. Several years ago I followed her Live Fit program from BodyBuilding.com. She is also regularly featured in Oxygen magazine and I’ve been a fan of hers for years. The program kicks off June 12th and I will be sharing my journey here.
Sophia’s 11th birthday – My baby girl will turn 11 this August! Her birthday is going to sneak up on me, since it is just 3 days after we get back from our cruise. So far we have not made plans, but I would love to take her on a mommy/daughter road trip. We will see what ideas she has to celebrate turning my favorite number, 11.
